Breast Cancer Prevention - It's not too late to change
Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women and the incidence is increasing with many Western families now having a mother, an aunt or grandmother affected. Very little has been done to properly inform women how to minimize their risks, apart from stopping smoking and eating better food, or what to do once diagnosed besides having tumour destructive treatment. However, with thermography, we have an efficient “high-tech” means of detecting and monitoring very early changes in breast health status with a proven 98% reliability for cancer. We encourage you to make the most of this as, by working with us, you could potentially reverse these changes and help prevent cancer from developing.
It is important to understand that the toxic environment in which we live is the main underlying cause of the epidemic of hormonal conditions and cancers facing both men and women today. Many of these toxic waste products increase oestrogen in the body –they are called xenoestrogens (foreign estrogens) – and occupy the body’s hormone receptor cell sites preventing the natural hormones from functioning. As a result an oestrogen imbalance or dominance is created. One of the main functions of oestrogen is cell proliferation and when excessive, leads to the creation of cysts and tumours. Hence the epidemic of fibrocystic breasts, polycystic ovaries, endometriosis, and all the hormonal cancers including breast and even prostate cancers.
Preventive measures
- Reduce exposures to toxic waste products as much as possible in your immediate environment e.g. household cleaners, soft plastic wrapping, plastics in microwaves, synthetic fly-sprays, commercial shampoos, toiletries/cosmetics (esp. if they have poly- or prop- listed in the ingredients), deodorants, herbicides and insecticides.
- Avoid or reduce medical cancer risks including prolonged oral contraception, synthetic hormone replacement therapy (SHRT), silicone breast implants, and according to Prof. Epstein, some drugs including Aldactone, Atenolol, Amitryptiline, Fluoxitine(Prozac), Haloperidol and even cholesterol lowering drugs (statins) that all may have some cancer risk factors.
- Food (organic when possible) Increase omega-3 fatty acids (cold-pressed flax-seed and fish oils) and decrease trans-fatty acids (margarines, commercial cooking oils in clear plastic bottles). Increase fruit and vegetables esp. cruciferous vegetables – broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower etc.. Avoid municipal chlorinated water and fluoride – Use a good filter. Reduce cow’s milk and cheese intake especially homogenized milk that is highly inflammatory. Reduce animal meats especially pig meats that can contain hormones and/or antibiotics. Avoid sugar and white flour as much as possible. Give the microwave oven away.
- Sufficient ascorbate (Vitamin C) for therapy cannot be realistically obtained from our food in our stressful lifestyle conditions and a supplement of at least 2-3G (grams) or better 5G/day would do much to reduce the risk of cancer, especially when combined with other factors. Vitamin E at 500 i.u./day is another useful anti-oxidant especially when combined with vit.C. Being also fat-soluble it enters places where vit.C is less effective and protects cell membranes from damage.
- Elimination. It is vitally important that the body’s elimination organs are functioning efficiently to minimise xenoestrogen accumulation. Thus, a high fibre diet, adequate good quality water and sufficient exercise are all important.
- Radiation and electromagnetic fields (EMF). This includes prolonged exposures to EMFs from overhead power-lines, transformers close to bedrooms, power-lines in walls near the heads of beds, water beds, electric blankets (unless unplugged), and prolonged use of computers esp. if surrounded by other computers back-to-back in same room. Consider also minimising repeated mammography and other x-rays.
- Good metals. Selenium is the most important anti-cancer and heart protective mineral but despite the well-known deficiencies in NZ, it is still being described as a dangerous toxic mineral. Most doctors do not know that we ought to be getting at least 3 micrograms/kg body wt./day and possibly double that when dental amalgam fillings are present. This would equate to at least a handful of Brazil nuts every day or alternatively, a cheap supplement in the form of tablets or drops. Selenium is an integral part of glutathione peroxidase, an enzyme that recycles glutathione, now regarded as the most important intra-cellular protector against cancer. Glutathione is even being used to treat cancer. Selenium is especially beneficial when combined with garlic.
- Toxic metals. The most toxic are mercury and nickel (braces and/or crowns) both of which are widely used in dentistry, cadmium (cigarettes), lead (paints, some hair dyes) and arsenic (treated timber). All are proven carcinogens (cancer promoters). Dental amalgam is still being falsely claimed as safe but the scientific evidence has shown the opposite. Notably, the Austrian and German Societies of Oncology (cancer) state in their official policy that patients with amalgam fillings (and root canals) need to have them removed if they have cancer. They would not do this without good reason and mercury depletes selenium, reduces haemoglobin oxygen and actually kills lymphocytes (white blood cells) including the natural killer cells in your blood. All of these form an integral protection against cancer. Amalgam must never be left in the mouth with any metal-based crowns or metal partial dentures.
- Root canals. A dead tooth whether root-filled or not cannot protect itself from the dirty mouth environment and within days becomes colonized by bacteria and fungi. Their highly toxic waste products then start to leach out through the porous ligament surrounding the root. There is a 50/50 chance that a dead tooth could eventually make you chronically or severely ill. They effectively use up a lot of anti-oxidant “house-keeping” with less available for other important things. There is also another factor namely that every tooth lies on a different acupuncture meridian and can thus adversely affect the health of those organs and structures on the same “party line” or meridian. The breast meridian teeth are the upper first two molars and second pre-molar i.e. upper 5,6,7, and the lower two premolars i.e. 4,5. Literature on this is available.
- Restore hormonal balance with bio-identical progesterone cream or oil. These are available with a GP’s script. Control oestrogen metabolism with the broccoli extract indole-3-carbinole or the metabolised product Di-indole-methane (DIM). This helps metabolise oestrogens down the non-cancer oestriol pathway. Iodine supplementation has also been shown to reduce fibrocystic breast disease and thus the risk of cancer.
From the above, it can be seen that much can be done to prevent or even potentially reverse a cancer-promoting state. Obviously, the earlier any abnormality is discovered the easier it will be to reverse. Thermal imaging could thus be the most sensitive of all the screening protocols if it can detect abnormalities before a tumour is large enough to be found on mammography. However, if a breast thermal abnormality progresses or fails to regress despite all the above measures, other investigations have to be done and these could involve ultrasound, mammography and MRI when others fail to find any abnormality.
